Shanice Jones Cameron
I am Shanice Jones Cameron, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. My dissertation is titled Locating the Everyday: Black Women, Well-being, and Digital Media. I utilized digital ethnographic methods to explore Black women’s health and well-being discourses distributed through information and communication technologies. These online health communities and discourses are significant, in part, because they disrupt dominant understandings about Black women’s health and biomedical frameworks as they relate to minoritized populations. Simultaneously, Black women’s well-being discourses illuminate their agency and use of digital technologies for cultural expression and health advocacy.
